3/8/10

Not the greatest conditions, but sure look like everyone was having fun. I got there early to find out the start was delayed to 10am. So I left to shoot my usual Sunday soccer game and came back at 11am. As the waves increased in size, so did the side-onshore winds. That with the North directions of the swell, challenging waves tested everyone... see link below:

3/6/10

Talked to Mahina today and she says it is on for Sunday morning... I'll be there bright and early.

3/2/10, Good chance it's on... See email from Mahina:

WAHINE ENTRANTS, because you have me on your side - it's a "Ladies First contest" so the wahine division will have "first preference of wave choice" and when you want to run your division.  So if waves look good to you that morning - then it's ON.  If you rather wait till later, then we'll run all the MEN'S Heats first.  Because of this - na wahine bodysurfers, I advise you come early to check in.  If you have wahine friends who are waiting it out till we make the call, please let them know what's up.

Was at the bay yesterday finalizing things with Steve Kapela, Al Balderama, Gabby Kahaulelio and veteran Waimea lifeguard, Mark Dombroski - and the sandbar is waaaay out.  With today's swell at warning level - the sandbar will stay out.  We have an advisory level swell coming in this Friday 3/5 - so we're definitely going to run something this weekend to take advantage of the sandbar.

Should you have any questions, please give me a call at 368-7749.  This number will also be the contest hotline.

Aloha,
Mahina
