last updated: 11/08/2007 2007 Lanai Trip... Here are the Hot Shots from our trip... Eileen and I went to Lanai City for a long weekend for our 2nd anniversary. Thanks to my uncle and aunt, we had a place to stay and a car for free... First time for me to go to Lanai! Aloha, Greg Getting There. See more here. A short delay at Island Air while they changed the front tires...Some kids playing the ukulele for us and other rambunctious kids. I love to fly small planes as you get a great view along the way.
Open Market. See more here. Saturday morning we went to a small open market... And I mean small. Lots of Filipino fried foods and a few craft tables. Eileen got a bracelet for her daughter and I got a spam musubi for the road.
Kaumalapau Harbor. See more here. After the market, we packed up and started our adventure. Looking for the roads to Polihua, we ended up heading down past the airport to Kaumalapau Harbor. We met the owner of Lanai Tree Service and he offered us his quads for the day. We respectfully declined since we didn't really know where we we going to end up.
Trek to Polihua Beach via Garden of the Gods. See more here. From the harbor, we headed, off-road, to where we thought would get us to the road to Polihua Beach. It took a while, keeping to the right, as there were many side roads. We saw deer and turkeys along the way. Finally, we came across a double dirt roads. Not sure, I got out as a truck came by and screamed, "to the beach" pointing left. The guys in the back yelled back, "yes". So we continued... Passing through Kanepuu Reserve and the Garden of the Gods, we finally made it to Polihua Beach. A bit windy and choppy waters. Nobody around for a hour or so. NICE! After a snack, we headed back.
Around The House. See more here. When we returned home, we hosed down the truck as it was covered in red dirt. I then preceded to walk around the property and take pictures of the trees, plants, scenery and parts of the house... I really liked the Banyan tree right in front of the front door.
Holupoe Beach Park. See more here. Adjacent to Manele Bay and the small boat harbor and below the Four Seasons Resort. After a short hike to the point to check out Puu Pehe Cove, a visit to the small boat harbor under construction and a drive to the resort property, we came back and went for a swim. Some locals visiting from Maui said yesterday had waves...Bummer!
Four Seasons Resort at Manele Bay. See more here. We drove around the golf coarse homes and visited the resort. We walked around the hotel before going for a swim at Holupoe Beach Park.
Off-road Snack Stop. See more here. After visiting the Hotel, we went to see where some of these side roads off Road #57 went. We found a nice place to enjoy the view and have a snack. On the way, we saw more deer and finally got shots of a Pueo (owl) sitting on a fence post. I had literally just asked for the chance to see one up close. He also showed off for us as he hunted for critters over some scrubs. Hovering for a few seconds and eventually moving on. AWESOME!
Hanging Out In The Backyard. See more here. After another fun and relaxing day, we hung out in the backyard and played Phase Ten and some Dominos. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and cool breeze.
Walk Through Town. See more here. Time to go see all of "downtown" Lanai City... We did some souvenir shopping and had lunch. The first stop was at Dis n' Dat Shop. I got Eileen a necklace of a Honu (turtle) with a abalone shell. I got a painting of Polihua Beach by Mike Carroll.
The End :( See more here.
